Shockwave Therapy

A modern and highly effective treatment in orthopedic and rehabilitation. Shockwave therapy refers to mechanical pressure pulses that expand as a wave in the body. These pulses help to improve musculoskeletal mobility and provision of drug-free pain relief.

How shockwave therapy works

During the treatment a high-intensity sound wave interacts with the tissues of the body. These waves stimulate an inflammatory and tissue repair response which leads to beneficial effects such as increased blood flow, reversal of inflammation, analgesic effects, stimulation of collagen and dissolution of calcium build-up.

The shock wave applicator will be applied to the treatment area with the shocks lasting between 3-5 minutes. You may have some discomfort following treatment but this will resolve within 24 hours.

Shockwave therapy is used to treat:

  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Achilles Tendinopathy
  • Patellar Tendinopathy
  • Shoulder Tendinopathy
  • Heel Spurs
  • Greater Trochanter Pain Syndrome
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Golfers Elbow
  • Myo-fascial Pain in the Lower Back
